Reading tonight’s paper, I discovered that Hurry the Jug is playing on at 7PM, Thursday June 17th for a weekly Midland concert series called “Tunes by the Tridge”. (Despite the promising name, they appear to be the only band in the series playing what a Celtic musician would think of as tunes.) I’ve not heard of them before, but their MySpace page has samples so you can get a feel for what they are about. They’re apparently from Charlotte.
For those of you wondering what the name means, “Hurry the Jug” is an old Irish set dance. There is a classic recording of it on legendary County Clare fiddler Bobby Casey’s album Casey in the Cowhouse.
A web search indicates they are also playing in Clare (Michigan!) on July 22nd.
