Just opened up the evening paper to discover that Dervish are playing in Midland on August 1st. They are a terrific band from Ireland, one of the first of the “modern” (post-Bothy Band) groups, with blazing tunes and lovely singing. If you are in the area and have any interest in Irish traditional music, this is pretty much a must-see show. 7PM Monday August 1st at the Midland Center for the Arts. It’s being put on by WCMU, and I think it’s being broadcast live and webcast as well.
Here’s a fairly old video of them playing a set of three jigs: “I Buried My Wife and Danced On Top of Her” / “Andy Dejarlis” / “John McKenna’s”.
